Journalists of the Turkic World who came to Turkey to participate in the Ceremony of the Third Honour Awards of the Press visited the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Konya Tahir Akyurek on January 27th, 2012. The Mayor who met with journalists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Bashkortostan (R.F), the Khakass Republic (R.F.) and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, said that the region of Turkistan is the country of origin of the people of Konya. The Mayor Mr. Akyurek who reminded of the fact that Konya had been the capital of Anatolian Turks for 300 years, stressed that families coming from Central Asia went to Cyprus and the Balkans. Mr. Akyurek stressed that peace and happiness of people are even more important than their region of origin and kinship, and said that everything possible is being done in order to bring Konya which used to be one of the most important cities of the Turkic-Muslim World in the 13th century on the front of the scene among cities of the world again. Mr. Akyurek who also said that he closely follows up activities organized by TURKSOY to promote Turkic culture, wished further success to the organization.
Journalists who met with the Mayor Akyurek, expressed their happiness to be in the city of origin of Mevlana, and extended their gratitude for the hospitality and warm welcome they experienced. At the end of the visit, the Mayor offered a six-volume-book on Mesnevi to his guests. The delegation then visited the Association of Journalists of Konya and was welcomed by the Chairman of the Association Sefa Özdemir. The Chairman of the Association of Journalists of Konya Sefa Özdemir who stressed the importance of the Turkic World, also said that it has become even more so important through the new law voted in France. Mr. Ozdemir reminded of the fact that “we will put an end to these allegations if we stand united and in solidarity with eachother. After the speeches, the Chairman of the Association of Journalists of Konya Sefa Ozdemir and foreign journalists exchanged newspapers.
On January 28th, 2012 the journalists went to Kayseri where they were invited to the “Symphonic Cabaret” concert of the Dogus Cildren’s Symphony Orchestra (DCSO) which is the first children’s orchestra of Turkey. Members of the delegation who were enchanted by the performance of the orchestra gathering children from Turkic Republics, also participated in a round table discussion chaired by Prof.Dr. Abdülkadir Yuvalı at the Turkic World Research Centre of the Erciyes University.
